Tai Chi Clothing

Many people often ask whether they need to wear special clothing while practicing Tai Chi. The best type of clothing to wear during Tai Chi is loose fitting and comfortable. You should make sure that whatever you wear does not restrict your movements.

You might consider wearing tights, a t-shirt, sweatpants or leotards. Do keep in mind that even though it may seem as though you would not become overexerted during Tai Chi, you may become warm, so it is not a good idea to overdress.

You can even be barefoot if you wish while practicing Tai Chi. There are special shoes for Tai Chi which are available but if you would rather not go to the trouble of expense, you can probably wear something that you already own. Just make sure you wear something that will not slip and will provide you with sufficient support for good balance.

Special Precautions
Tai Chi is very gentle and is thus a good form of exercise for almost everyone. If you have a condition that affects the joints such as arthritis or if you are pregnant, remember that you should really consult your physician before you get started. It is also a good idea to let your instructor know about your condition as well.
